The BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club) NFTs are hands-down some of the most expensive in the space, not to mention well known, too. One of said NFTs has been mistakenly sold for $3,015 according to CNET. The actual value is $300,000.
An OpenSea review confirmed the transaction made on Saturday, reviewing the fact that the owner purchased the NFT for 1 Ethereum back on May 30th. Around that time, Ethereum was roughly about the value of $2,290.
The holder listed his NFT at a price of 0.75 ETH despite the value being 75 ETH, which would translate to $300,000 approximately.
The NFT holder, named Max, said “How’d it happen? A lapse in concentration I guess,” reportedly said in his statement to CNET.
He continued “I list a lot of items every day and just wasn’t paying attention properly. I instantly saw the error as my finger clicked the mouse but a bot sent a transaction with over 8 ETH of gas fees so it was instantly sniped before I could click cancel, and just like that $250,000 was gone.”
The buy has, according to the report, spent 8.75 Ethereum, or about just under $35,000 in total due to that mistake.
It’s quite a costly mistake to make considering how valuable Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs have eventually become over time.
The Board Ape Yacht club NFTs have undoubtedly surged in the NFT scene, with a variety of huge celebrities, influencers, and top brands embracing their NFTs. Not too long before, Adidas was one of those top brands to announce their collaboration with them.
Max took the news of what happened quite well, regardless of the error. On that notion, he said “The industry is so new, bad things are going to happen whether it’s your fault or the tech. Once you no longer have control of the outcome, forget and move on,” he stated.
