Cleveland Cavaliers Launch NFT Experience titled ‘My Cavs Locker’

The Cleveland Cavaliers have teamed up with NFT platform Sweet to release their own virtual Locker NFT experience.

The basketball high-flyers the Cleveland Cavaliers have joined forces with Sweet, an NFT platform, in order for them to launch their first-ever NFT experience.

In order to claim their very own free NFT locker, Cavaliers fans are given the ability to go to and ‘unlock’ it for the 1st time when they see the Cavs and Indiana Pacers go head to head in a game that’ll begin at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on the 6th of Feb.

This Locker is also said to act as the virtual showcase for the display and interaction with any and all of the future Cavs NFT collectibles.

For fans that show up to the game in person, they’ll receive their very 1st NFT collectible, a ‘Let ‘Em Know’ branded t-shirt which can be displayed in their Locker, with the further option of purchasing the other digital items that’ll be released on that day.

This is also intended to release a series of collectibles that shall be made available to fans that attend home games for the rest of the season from 2021-22.

The CEO of Sweet, Tom Mizzone said “what’s remarkable about this program is how accessible it is,” in conversation with Coin Rivet.

Mizzone also shed light on the fact that this means future collectibles might also consist of different clothing items which may just make an appearance in the physical world.

“We love our teams, we love to collect, and when we get to go to a game, we love to get there early to buy some piece of physical merch – a hat, a jersey, whatever it is – and this interactive Cavs Locker experience really opens up a new virtual world of possibilities,” he added.

“Now when you go to see the Cavs play, you can collect digital assets that are not only tied to that at-the-game experience you had, but you can curate your own showcase to show off these moments and digital gear that you own.”

“Tying this immersive locker experience with NFTs is going to unlock new opportunities for fan engagement this season and beyond.”

All any fan would need here is their mobile device for them to begin collecting digital memorabilia as well as completing their “immersive” Cavs experience, which is their own personal virtual Locker, he stated when elaborating on the matter.

“We see this as a model for how teams can use this new digital tech to empower their fans to literally showcase how much they love their favourite franchises.”

Mike Conley, Cavaliers SVP and Chief Information Officer also chimed in, adding that “this will be an on-going promotion, not just for the remainder of this season but for upcoming seasons, meaning fans can continue to build out, curate, and showcase their ‘My Cavs Locker’ into the future”.

“This offers our supporters a fantastic and fun way to own a digital shrine, showcasing their love for the team,” he stated.

“It also is an extension of our commitment to innovate around the fan experience and constantly explore new ways to build deeper connections with those in Cleveland and across the world who fervently support the team.”

In case any fans aren’t able to attend the game at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to claim an official game-issued collectible, the in-venue-only NFTs might just see themselves become available on secondary markets, giving fans an opportunity for them to claim the items they weren’t able to get for themselves the last time.
